Privacy Policy
Effective July 4, 2026
The short version: Notere is local-first. Your notes live in plain files on your devices and in storage you control. Kwarkly operates no servers that receive, store, or can access your notes. The app has no accounts, no analytics, and no telemetry. If you join the website waitlist, we store your email address, submission time, referring page, and browser user-agent string.
Who we are
Notere is published by Kwarkly LLC, a company registered in California, USA (“Kwarkly”, “we”, “us”). For anything privacy-related, contact us at [email protected].
This policy covers two things: the Notere application you install on your devices, and the notere.app website.
The Notere application
Your notes and files
Notere stores your notes as ordinary Markdown files in a folder you choose, together with local index and history data on your device. Nothing is uploaded to us. If you sync a vault across devices, that happens through storage you operate (Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud Drive, Syncthing, or similar) under that provider’s terms — Notere just reads and writes files in the folder, and we are not a party to that transfer.
No telemetry
The app sends no usage analytics, no crash reports, and no “phone home” pings. Diagnostic logs, if you enable them, are written locally on your device and never transmitted.
Optional calendar integrations
If you connect a calendar, the app talks to your calendar provider directly from your device:
- Calendar feeds (ICS): the app periodically fetches the feed URL you provide. Feed URLs can contain private access tokens; they are treated as secrets, stored only on your device, and never sent to us or written to logs.
- Microsoft accounts: you sign in with Microsoft directly in your browser through the Microsoft identity platform. The app requests read-only access to your calendars (
Calendars.Read) and your basic profile (User.Read) to label the account. Sign-in tokens are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to Kwarkly. Your use of Microsoft services is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Fetched calendar events are mirrored into a local database on your device so they can be shown alongside your notes. This mirror never leaves your device. Disconnecting an account or removing a feed deletes its stored credentials.
Optional on-device AI
If you enable AI-assisted search or AI-generated meeting briefs, the app downloads the required model files from huggingface.co, then runs those models entirely on your device. Search and brief generation process your notes and meeting context locally. Your notes, search queries, and the meeting context used to generate briefs are not sent to Kwarkly or any AI provider.
What Kwarkly receives from the app
Nothing. The app makes no network connections to Kwarkly. Its only network activity is the calendar providers and the model download described above, both optional and initiated by you.
The notere.app website
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we store the email address you submit, together with the submission time, the referring page, and your browser’s user-agent string. We use this solely to contact you about Notere availability. We do not sell it, share it, or use it for anything else. To be removed, email [email protected] and we will delete your entry.
Hosting
The website is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site, as described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Spam protection
The waitlist uses Cloudflare Turnstile and request limits to reduce automated submissions. When you interact with the form, Turnstile processes browser and network information to check for abuse. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. We do not store Turnstile verification tokens in the waitlist database.
No tracking
The website sets no tracking cookies, runs no analytics scripts, and serves no ads.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since the only personal data we hold is the waitlist entry described above, exercising these rights is simple: email [email protected] and we will respond promptly.
Children
The website and app are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will post the updated version on this page with a new effective date. Material changes affecting the app’s data handling will be called out in release notes.
